Some more photos from 2008. Kind of a test.

Keeping Sol in Solstice
December Carrots
Here are pictures of the last of our containers from 2008. They're in the basement, under a single two tube fluorescent lamp, draining to the groundwater sump pit. By all rights, they shouldn't be alive, let alone still producing, but there you have it. The larger carrot container uses about half a gallon of water a day, and the lettuce container about half of that. There is a dehumidifier in the basement set to the half way point on the dial (whatever that may mean). The spoon in the carrot picture is an ordinary teaspoon, for reference.
These two containers were planted in mid to late August and carried indoors around the end of October, or first of November. The fertilizer bands on both containers were unprotected from rain (tsk, tsk!), but low light levels seem to be the biggest problem they're facing, so far.
Enough lettuce comes out of the small container each week for a small salad, or an addition to a regular sized salad.
Both lettuce and carrots are delicious!
